final battle: BATTLE OF YORKTOWN
September 28, 1781. The day it came to an end. George Washington controlled a force of 17,000 French and Continental troops, which faced up against General Lord Charles Burgoyne and his 9,000 British troops.
George Washington's "side kick" was French general Marquis de Lafayette who controlled his French portion of the 17,000 troops. The American and French troops blocked off Burgoyne's escape and fought them in Yorktown, Virginia. Eventually making Burgoyne surrender. The battles lasted about 20 days, the Americans and the French greatly outnumbered the British 18,000 to 8,000.
